I was following Beckys' formula that Gaye from the Handcrafted Soap list had help her with, but my little four year old grandson was telling me his bible verse. I was trying to pour oils and listen to him at the same time. Well I poured four more ounces of olive oil than I should have.
I poured it into the already mixed oils, before I had realized hat I had done and we ran through the "thesage" calculator real fast (lye was cooling anyway) and the lye difference was just a few grams.
So I finished the batch and it came to trace just fine. Poured in the mold and let it sit for twenty four hours and Becky removed it and cut it and let it sit for two weeks.
I couldn't stand it any longer and tried it. It made my hands feel so good up to my elbows. So now my mistake from a bible verse is our basic recipe for all our soaps.
We use local grown honey and old fashion oats for this soap. We have added powdered goat milk, or for my husband and his co-workers we use our own grown rosemary infused and the tea tree oil from Trinity Herbs, for their heat rashes that they get from working in the heat and high humidity in the summer here in South Texas on the Gulf Coast. Some of the men have said that it also helps with their foot problems too.
I am hooked also on making Aromatherapy candles and Becky also likes making garden soap or lavender soap with the buds in it and making the soaps and lotions.
She is very good with the Aromatherapy part and has made several lotions and body butters for people who have some skin problems.
We have learned lots over these past three years. Neither Becky or I havet bought any soap in so long. We are now trying to get the liquid soap down and have done some laundry stain using our ugly soaps. Gets the clothes really clean.
No Becky still hasn't gotten the web site done. We have our name registered and business license and insurance, and we have been looking for a small shop, because our husbands freak when we are in the kitchen. The things we have confiscated for the soapmaking and candle melting!
