Step Into Summer
By Christine Ziegler-Bollum of Little OlFactory
Summer is right around the corner, and with that wonderful season comes a lot more foot exposure. Thats right, its almost time to show those fabulous feet off, in sandals, at the pool, on the beach, or just romping around the backyard barefoot. After a long cold winter in socks and boots its not surprising if your feet have been a little neglected. Never fear, there is still plenty of time to pamper your tootsies and get them into tip top, tip toe, not afraid to put your best feet forward shape.
This month I am featuring some of my favorite foot pampering recipes!
Peppermint Tea Tree Foot Bath
 Cup Sea Salt
 Cup Epsom Salt
1 Squirt of Unscented Liquid Soap
2 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
1 Drop Peppermint Essential Oil
Blend all of the above ingredients together in a foot basin filled with warm water. Soak feet for 20 minutes. After removing feet from the foot bath is the perfect time to use your foot sander or pumice stone to remove calloused areas and rough skin.
Almond and Oatmeal Foot Scrub
1/4 Cup Oatmeal
1/2 Cup Cornmeal
1/2 Cup (Hawaiian Alea Red) Sea Salt
 Cup Ground Almonds
Olive Oil
2 Drops Orange Essential Oil
One Orange Sliced In Half
Mix oatmeal, cornmeal, sea salt and almonds together in a wide mouth jar. Add enough olive oil to cover. Add essential oil. Gently stir. Using the orange half, massage oily paste into feet, paying special attention to calloused areas. Rinse feet.
Lemon Lime Foot Butter
1 Oz Shea Butter
1 Oz Jojoba
1 Oz Sweet Almond Oil
 Oz Cocoa Butter
 Oz Coconut Oil
 Oz Beeswax
Approx 10-15 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
Approx 10-15 Drops Lime Essential Oil
Melt all ingredients except Essential Oils in a double boiler until melted. Remove from heat. Cool mixture slightly, but do not let solidify. Add Lemon and Lime EOs. Pour into a jar. Cool. Apply to feet. For best results apply at night and cover feet with cotton (or other 100% natural fiber) socks.

Basic Safety to remember: Never use essential oils on the skin undiluted. Do not use cold pressed citrus oils when skin is going to be exposed to the sunlight (or tanning lights) due to the fact that they are phototoxic and may cause a rash or pigmentation when exposed to UV. Also, when using citrus oils always be sure the fruit source used to make the oil was grown without pesticides. If the skin becomes irritated or if oils get into the eyes, immediately flush with vegetable oil and call health care practitioner, do not use water as the essential oils are not water soluble and may cause further discomfort. Keep all essential oils and cosmetics out of the eyes and out of the reach of children.
