Spring Tonics for Cleansing Body, Mind and Soul
By Georgene Lockwood - page 3-
Aunt Bea's Apple Cider
1 cup fresh cold water
1 to 2 teaspoons raw honey
1 to 2 teaspoons raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Heat the water to whatever temperature you desire. Put the honey and vinegar into a cup and stir in the hot water. Many variations use different amounts of the ingredients in both hot and cold recipes, so vary yours to taste.
Yet another herb associated with spring is horseradish root. It's a circulatory and digestive stimulate, just what you need to get the energy flowing again. Use it in dressings and sauces for a little extra punch. And, as always, garlic is in season. Garlic and onions are cleansers and blood purifiers, so feel free to indulge.
So, you've given your digestive system a rest by fasting for a day or so, added to your intake of fresh spring greens, added some tonic teas or drinks and begun sprinkling the fresh sprouts from the garden on your daily fare. Now, how about a Spring Spa for the outer you?
Spring Body Care
As the warmer weather approaches, your skin care regimen is
likely to change. How about a spa day to shed your winter skin and get that healthy spring glow? Start by doing a salt scrub and loofah your whole body, then do a long soak in an herbal bath (use a blend of lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and peppermint oil). Get a professional massage or take turns with a
partner.
Pay special attention to your face. Remember to protect it from the sun and you might want to shift to a lighter moisturizer than the one you use over the winter. Heres a nice recipe from for anExfoliating Face Scrub:
Take equal parts steel cut oats, lavender flowers, and powdered milk. Grind them to a powder (except the milk obviously!), mix and store in any glass container with a lid. (A clean coffee grinder works great to grind these things...) This mixture can be kept right on your bathroom sink for easy use. To apply, simply wet your face, put a bit of the mix into your hand and blend with a little water to make a paste. Apply to skin, scrub around and rinse!
